When an idea's time has come, often many people come up with it seemingly independently. the text of the cloud of unknowing is truely an aleph-null, because it washes your mind of preconception about the self, ego, etc. Truth is ineffable, meaning it can be experienced, but not described?. Burroughs Okay, the mind of god is infinite. Therefore, each piece of that mind is also infinite, but also requires definition to be different from all the other points. However, a portion of infinity is just as infinite as the whole, so this definition is virtual. I interpret this virtual definition as the amount of time required for a given universe to become self-aware of its own nature. So, any given universe will eventually realize its own true nature as god. There are three main ways this realization can be achieved, relative to its novelty/time value. In high novelty universes, the laws of electrodynamics and dimensional structure would be as such that within several seconds of the big bang, the cloud of matter and energy becomes self-aware due to \"randomness\" (quantum weirdness). The middle option is the one we are hopefully living in, in which matter begets life, which begets sentient life, which begets interconnected social structures, which begets the noosphere, and more and more information density, until the omega point is reached. The third option is the universe reaches a state of maxium entropy. This super-cold gas cloud is perfect to interact with the quantum weirdness which inherently leads to consciousness, meaning we have a similar scenario to the first. The important thing to remember is that time is virtual, so it is technically moot which one we live in. -Me -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like the story of the rope mistaken for a snake, the mystery has now been explained to me. Like the many bracelets, which I mistakenly thought were gold; now, I do not say what I said then. Huxley's three categories of truth can also be interpreted through this framework, one of the evolution and multiplication of finite into the infinite via feedback loops. 1) What is: We start with what seems to be concrete, objective matter, stable, the building blocks of reality. 2) Direct conscious experience of that matter by itself in the form of sentient life, fraying the edges of that finiteness slightly. 3) Words: morphological constructs for encoding and compressing information into pieces interpretable by other conscious minds with the same encoding algorithms, allowing subjective experiences to be shared, and information density to increase exponentially. Just look at Moore's Law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore%27s_Law. For this journal, I decided to test my hypnotizability/absorption score on three different occasions, using a modified Tellegen absorption scale test, of my own creation, in order to get an objective assessment of qualia, by comparing them to other qualia samples taken of myself at other points in time. (as objectiveness is an illusion, self-referential systems are necessary to impart meaning to datum) Here is a link to the test I created: http://www.sendspace.com/file/32izg4 I answered all questions relative to the current moment, not the past, as the instructions state. I have an interesting theory that because the study of narcohypnotic agents I am using (http://www.hypnosisandsuggestion.org/modification_of_suggestibility.html) was published in 1979, before the advent of MDMA. I think mirror neuron activation is crucial in hypnosis, just as it is learning something by watching someone else do it. | Ygg edited Yggdrasil Modern psychology had to abandon Freud's metapsychology (the sociological & political import of his late work) because, at base, it constituted a critique of Enlightenment values. Psychology could not develop itself into a \"proper science\" while it continued this Freud's final line of inquiry regarding the nature of civilization. Instead, psychology reduced itself (its scope and approach) to a functional or medical apparatus: diagnose & cure. This transition was impossible while the field still recognized Freud's metapsychological thesis: that civilization itself requires a repression of individual instincts before it can proceed. If we are all sick and necessarily so, psychology cannot justify its paradigm of illness & remedy. And so it exorcized its demons and designated these problems the work of philosophy, refashioning itself as a \"real\" science with a desperate obsessiveness that reveals its base insecurities with every insistance at its legitimacy. And in the process, psychology sold out: it dropped the serious (and difficult) work it could have done in exchange for an academic and societal status that is always necessarily in danger of disintegrating. This process, in a beautifully ironic turn, requires the field to repress the memory of Freud, at once paying brief lip-service (\"Of course Freud was the father of psychology\") and simultaneously attempting to aggressively humiliate him with a parade of his worst ideas. We are right to be critical of Freud, but the consistency, tone, and attitude with which he is attacked in modern academic departments might be driven by more interesting motives: an embarrassment that where the father sought and may have failed, the children fear to go. All this, of course, assumes that he is still read and not simply rejected through a hereditary line of graduate seminar Powerpoint slides. The House of Asterion extinction / megafauna |

| Josef Schok edited Aleph-Null Also, I discovered, through several intense conversation on the nature of reality, consciousness, etc, that nearly all of my good ideas were not produced by the vacuum of my own self, but by discussion and bouncing ideas off of others, and their providing of new angles of approach and thought. So my new writing process refined by this experiment is to come up with an outline of what I want to say, discussing it with several peers, and taking their suggestions as being correct, and creating several versions of this outline, expounding on the points they like best? then selecting from these ?breakfast options? the ones which most resonate with me. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For this post, I will analyze the hypnotic and advertising techniques used in a paragraph of ?the Cloud of Unknowing?. And what more? 1 Yit it semeth that He wolde not leve thee thus lightly, for love of His herte, the whiche He hath evermore had unto thee sith thou were oughtes.2 Bot what did He?3 Seest thou nought how lystly and how graciously He hath pulled thee to the thrid degré and maner of leving, the whiche hight Singuleer?4 In the whiche solitari forme and maner of levyng thou maist lerne to lift up the fote of thi love and step towardes that state and degré of levyng that is Parfite, and the laste state of alle.5 1 ? ?And now, this!?: a common advertising technique, using attention shifting and shock to heighten effect. 2- a combination of rapport building (trust building) and regression to an earlier state, the state in which one is aught, or nothing. This makes one more susceptible to suggestions. 3- A hypnotic storytelling question, used in conversational hypnosis: ask someone a question that can only be answered by further listening. 4- Rhyming is another often-used hypnotic device, in this case aught and nought. Also numerical anchoring of dissociated states of consciouness produced by the reading of the text, three into one. One can think of this passage, and the entire text as an ?guided integration meditation?, rather than conventional hypnosis, which leads to diminished consciousness, but produces more guaranteed effects, 5- Physical suggestion of movement ?lift up your foot? converted into imaginary mental potential. A more liberal perspective could also interpret this sentence as progression, a technique used to power positive change by having the subject visualize the results of personal improvement. Brainstorming time: Let's play a game. I have some technological pieces here, I'm curious to see what sort of combination applications you folks come up for them. The first side of the record was one track. It was a mix of drum beats and reverbed vocal tracks repeating and not particularly spectacular, but one line caught my attention as it related to MyCurrentPath. The vocal track was a low male voice repeating, \"You're learning the ways of the world kid, you're learning the ways of the world.\" Recently I looked up the word \"modernity\" in the dictionary. I have to admit, Ihad heard the word many times in context, but did not connect the spelling and the pronounciation. When spoken, Ithought the word pointed to \"maternity\" rather than \"modernity\", even when used in the proper context. Somewhere, there existed in my consciousness a place where modernism and maternity carried the same meaning, or place, perhaps this can point to that. This is a sample of the audio piece that I am building. This is just the beginning with only a few tracks before any refined editing. | Josef Schok added Aleph-Null ?\"This sentence is lying.\"
For this post, I decided to play devil?s advocate, and see how hard it would be to do no writing or textual composition at all. Language use implies inherent contradictions, both based on differing subjective interpretations of meaning. This is why the idea and practice of a wiki is so interesting to me, because it implies the collapse of a quantum superposition of multiple viewpoints into one unified, yet continually evolving consensus meaning.
Julian Jaynes proposed that with the creation of a written language, human consciousness evolved into what it is now, with one dominant hemisphere of the brain..
So I shunted my creative skills into speaking, namely, hypnosis.
I tried several new conversational hypnosis techniques, with great success. Hypnosis is fascinating because it relies on feedback loops: both inducing them in others, and adapting to the subject?s responses.
Also, I discovered, through several intense conversation on the nature of reality, consciousness, etc, that nearly all of my good ideas were not produced by the vacuum of my own self, but by discussion and bouncing ideas off of others, and their providing of new angles of approach and thought.
So my new writing process refined by this experiment is to come up with an outline of what I want to say, discussing it with several peers, and taking their suggestions as being correct, and creating several versions of this outline, expounding on the points they like best? then selecting from these ?breakfast options? the ones which most resonate with me. |
